Dochas Carers Centre celebrated 25 years of supporting unpaid carers in Mid Argyll, Kintyre, and the Islands (Islay, Jura and Gigha) on Wednesday 9 August 2023. The event was held at Tarbert Marquees between 11.30 and 15.00 pm.

The day started with staff arranging beautiful artworks display created by unpaid carers in all areas, setting up a raffle stall, refreshments and food corners, and sitting areas. It got better when the Easy Club band turned up to entertain folks. Thanks to the band members; Grant, Hugh, Stephen, and Kevin. In the afternoon, everyone was so impressed with the performance by the 'Forget Me Not' choir led by Catherine Paterson, Dochas President, and Louise Curtis. They had been practicing for quite some time before the event. The deli cafe in Tarbert delivered delicious sandwiches, sausage rolls, and sweets that catered to all diet requirements including vegan and gluten-free. All visitors couldn't compliment enough on the high quality and how delicious they were. Thanks to one of our supporters, Roxie Malik who made Indian Pakora that everyone seemed to love them too. Catherine shared the memories of when she started the charity and how it became the carers centre. She then was presented with a Photo memory book and a mug gift with her portrait of holding an MBE medal. The young piper then played his tunes and led in two staff carrying a big cake in to the marquee. The yummy cake was made by Tan Black Cakes and Demos who kindly donated it for our special day. While everyone enjoying the cake, we also drew the raffles and gave away prizes to those who bought tickets. The whole day went by quickly with over 100 attendants amid joy and laughter.

Many thanks to everyone who attended and made the day even more special. We will work hard and continue to support unpaid carers to the best we could.
